Stir Fried Cabbage

My friend Rosy showed me how to make this simple side dish several years ago.  It a healthy side dish to add to any Asian style dinner.  When Kimchi is unavailable I serve this with polgoki.  My kids are even happy eating stir fried cabbage with a little bit of Sriracha sauce and rice.  Normally this is made with napa cabbage but I have had excellent results with less expensive green cabbage.  The napa cabbage has the best texture when stir fried.

Stir Fried Cabbage

  • One head napa cabbage, roughly chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1/2 of an onion diced
  • 2 cubes beef bouillon

Heat oil in a heavy duty skillet.  Quickly fry the onion and the garlic.  Remove from pan and set aside.  Fill the skillet with the napa cabbage and cook for about 8 minutes or until slightly wilted, yet still crispy in the center.  The cabbage will reduce in volume as it cooks.  Season with 2 cubes beef bouillon, crumbled.  The water from the cabbage will help the bouillon to dissolve.  Place the onion and garlic back into the frying pan and toss with the cooked cabbage.  Serve with red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
